The Stream Team idea began in 1993. DCSE had been active in the Downriver area since 1989, but wanted to engage in a proactive project to help our environment. Two members, Mr. Bruce Szczechowski and Mr. John Nasarzewski had participated in river clean-ups in other areas and thought they would see if their students would like to participate. It was such a resounding success that this pilot project took on a life of its own and has flourished ever since.

Since the first event, the Stream Teams have cleaned up and restored 61 sites during 39 events. To date there have been over 5700 participants along 60 different organizations which have encompassed all of the Downriver communities!
