Benthic Monitoring program
2004 article - 2004 press release

The newest of our programs, the Stream Team Adopt-A-Waterway is coordinated with the Wayne County Department of the Environment Watershed Management Division. Volunteers receive training in how to use Benthic monitoring to monitor the health of the watershed. The types and numbers of benthic macro invertebrates found are used to assess water quality over time. Each team of volunteers samples two sites under the direction of a trained leader. The first training session took place August 16th 2004. From there, sampling at 6 different sites in October and November was coordinated through the Stream Teams. The eventual goal is to expand in all of the schools and communities in the Ecorse Creek and Downriver Combined Watersheds. Call Mr. Bruce Szczechowski or Mr. John Nasarzewski at 734-246-4611 for more info or email: stream team. If you would like the results of the study, select here. (.pdf file)
